This famous quote by the Irish writer William Butler Yeats points in two ways to the excursion of the E-phase in the last week before the Christmas holidays: on the one hand Irish in spirit, and on the other hand warm and welcoming – because we came together to mark the end of the semester at the Irish pub in the Europa Center. In advance, we had engaged intensively with Irish history, culture and mentality; now it was time to experience an important part of that culture – the Irish pub – firsthand.

In Ireland, the pub is not only a central meeting place for conversation and music. It is also an important place of socialization and thus a fundamental part of social life, across generations.
Although the course does not consist of multiple generations, it is made up of people with very different backgrounds and life experiences. Whether keeper, insurance clerk, body guard, actor, dental assistant or flight attendant (to name but a few) – during a sociable and cheerful evening with live music, cold drinks and deep conversations, the quote mentioned at the beginning was clearly felt!
Thanks to everyone who came – and a heartfelt Sláinte! 🙂
