On Friday, September 20, 2024, once again demonstrations were held worldwide as part of the 16th Global Climate Strike. In Germany alone, 75,000 people took to the streets. Their message: We need to take action against climate change NOW!
Under the slogan #NowForFuture, several thousand people gathered in Berlin right in front of the Federal Chancellery, as well. Among them, there was a delegation of students from the Peter- A.-Silbermann-Schule. With their presence, they wanted to support the young activists of Fridays for Future in their demands to the government:
- Net-zero emissions by 2035
- Coal phase-out by 2030
- 100% renewable energy by 2035
- An end to subsidies for fossil fuels
- A carbon tax on all greenhouse gas emissions.
They were loudly supported by speakers such as the „Omas gegen Rechts,“ the „Känguru- Chroniken“ author Marc-Uwe Kling, and musical performances by Carla Ahad and Liyo.
The students of the basic English course (Q3) support the demands mentioned above and are united in their message:
P.S.: For those who couldn’t be there in person, a recording of the protests can be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be1B_nYABB0
